Can anyone identify this alien invasion film from the 50's?!


Question: All I can remember was that the alien ship that lands in this american town , lands over a hill. It was black and white so I'm guessing it was in the 50's. I also think that the people that was taken over by the aliens was left with a mark behind the neck although I may be getting this mixed up with 2 films. I was thinking it may have been Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers of It Came From Outer Space but I've not seen these for ages to confirm it. It's mostly the image of the hill which sticks in my mind. Please help ! It's been bugging me for years !!

The ship from "The Day the Earth Stood Still" lands in a mall, if I remember correctly.
The ship from "It Came from Outer Space" lands in a mine...
Do you remember the shape of the ship and the aliens? Any other detail will be of help.

    The movie you are after is The day the earth stood still and it was released on the 28th of september 1951 in the usa.
    Also here is the story line for you to remeber:
    A flying saucer orbits the 1950s Earth. It lands in Washington, DC, on the Mall. The lone occupant steps out and is shot by a jumpy soldier. Gort, a large and very powerful robot appears to save him and is able to melt tanks with the slightest bit of his power. The wounded alien orders Gort to stop his rampage and is taken to a hospital from which he escapes in order to learn more about this planet, even moving in as a boarder with an Earth family. When they begin to suspect him, he reveals himself, along with the news that Gort is a member of a race of super-robot enforcers invented to keep the peace of the galaxy that will destroy the Earth if provoked.
    The movie was nominated in 1952 for Best Motion Picture Score but did not win the golden globe for that but in another catagory Best Film Promoting International Understanding it won a golden globe.
