Pirates of the Caribbean 2?!

Question: Can you watch Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and follow it well without having seen the first one? I saw the first one a long time ago and don't remember it at all and I'm wondering if I should watch that one again first before seeing the 2nd one. Or will I be able to understand the 2nd one without remembering the first?

If you have absolutely no idea at all what #1 was about, then you may enjoy #2 more if you see #1 again. #2 is a great movie, even without seeing the first one, but I've learned over time the best way to enjoy a sequel that is well-written is to see the first movie beforehand. You'll have a lot explained about things that happened in the first movie. That's the only thing that is making me think you'll appreciate the references they make if you see the first one again.

It's a good stand-alone, but you'll miss a lot of background to which they refer in it.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0325980/ information about #1. They've been showing Pirates #1 on cable. If you get Disney channel in the USA, they plan on showing it this weekend -- Friday and Saturday at 8 Eastern time. It will include scenes which had been cut for the theater version.

Thanks for the compliment. I hope you get a chance to see Pirates 1 this weekend on Disney so you can view before you watch #2. Oh, and #3 definitely does not stand alone. :-) S. Report It

  • yes

    ITS BORING :)

Watch the first one before the second, otherwise by the end of the second you will have no idea what just happened....trust me, I had to go home and watch the first over again

    no I don't think so

You don't really need to remember the first. I watched the third without the first two and taht was a tad confusing. But I think you'll be find without the first.

Watch the first one - there are details in it that go along with the second so it makes more sense

Don't worry they follow the storyline from the last episode, sort of like a manga ( japanese novel).

I think it's ok, beside your smart, it'll come back to you a soon as you see it.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 follows a different plot to the first so yes you should be able to.

you will understand more if you go back and watch the first one again

No - it would be best to watch Number 1 for the set up of the characters...especially Jack.

No cuz there are a lot of details you wont understand without seeing the first one

PotC2 makes a lot of references to the first movie, which is one of the reasons it got such poor reviews when it came out. But what do people expect when it's a trilogy? You don't need to watch the first movie, but at the very least, read a synopsis online of it, before diving into the second movie. And DEFINITELY watch the second movie before watching the third. Or even better, have a pirates of the caribbean movie marathon and watch all three movies in a day.

i think you can understand Pirates of the Caribbean 2 without watching the first one, but I don't remember too well myself because I have already watched the whole trilogy...
you just need to remember the characters from the first one...

Well the second one is a lot different from the first one so actually I don't think you need to watch the first one again. I loved all three movies...

Basically all you need to know for the second one is that Will and Elizabeth plan on getting married and the East India Company is starting to control Port Royal. Commodore Norrington's position changes. Barabossa was killed off at the end of Pirates 1. Jack is off pirating when he realizes he owes Davy Jones for giving him the Black Pearl. That's the basics for you have fun watching the movie!
