Obscure martial arts film reference?!

Question: Hi, does anyone know a film (or tv series) that looked kind of 80s and had a curly haired cop who was taught martial arts by an old Asian master. All I remember is he was taught how to walk on wet concrete and one of the exercises he was given to do involved repeatedly tapping his index finger onto a wooden board. Does this ring any bells for anyone?? Thanks

You said "curly haired", so it's not Fred Ward in the film version. You're talking about "Remo Williams: The Prophecy" aka "Remo Williams" (1988 TV series pilot), in which Remo is played by Jeffrey Meek, who looks very different from Fred Ward, who originated the role. In the pilot, Roddy McDowall played Chiun as delightfully as Joel Grey did in the film.

This site has even more information and perhaps some videos about the pilot, which I really wish had been picked up:

Here's information about "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins":

I LOVE this series of novels! The film and the pilot did a wonderful job of capturing this quirky approach to adventure stories. I've been trying to build a complete Remo library for a number of years. They'll share the shelf with my Doc Savage novels. Now, if they would make a really good Doc Savage movie, I would be really happy.

Jeffrey Meek's other series are: "Raven" as Jonathon Raven~~20 episodes 1992-93; and "Mortal Kombat: Conquest" as Rayden~~20 episodes 1998-99. "Walker: Texas Ranger" killed off "Raven"! BOOOOOOOO! Too bad that couldn't have been reversed because "Raven" was a great adventure series!

Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins
