Why does every horror movie have only catholic priests?!

Question: I'm tryin to think of a vampire or demon movie that had a Protestant or Mormon minister.

Answers: I'm tryin to think of a vampire or demon movie that had a Protestant or Mormon minister.

Because Catholics have a very unique understanding of demonic possession. Here are some fun facts on the subject.

All human knowledge is gained through the senses. But angels are immaterial. Therefore, angelic knowledge is not gained but infused by God. So demons can't learn new languages, etc...what the demon knows, it knows, and can't learn anything else.

Demons must obey the priest when he commands it in the name of Christ it is only a matter of time. The (supernatural) power of a priest on earth is stronger than the power of any demon.

Also, Catholics have very specific rituals for demonic exorcism. It is extremely physical, and as you may notice in The Exorcist, the demon's goal is to distract the priest from his prayer.

Most movies don't want to just show some minister praying over the demon's forehead.

LOL Never thought about it!! lol

The only one I can think of is "Sleepy Hollow". There was a Reverend Steenwyck, but he had basically no real role in the film.

I never thought about that before, though. Interesting.

I think it's mainly to do with the Catholic image that people have....only Catholics have an actual documented text for the exorcism of demons and all that stuff.

Because a Catholic guy in his fancy outfit looks scarier than a Mormon Bishop in a white button down shirt and a tie, or a protestant minister.

their get-up is the most recognizable.

mostly though, i think it is because they are the ones who perform exorcisms.

I can think of two right off hand. "From Dusk Till Dawn" had a pastor as a main character. "Silver Bullet" had a minister, maybe Methodist or Lutheran? As to the why, I would think that the catholic faith is the largest and most well known in America. We associate good, faith, peace and tranquility with the catholic church. Therefore, to take that and have horrible things happen gives us a reaction that horror movies go for. Or I'm full of crap...lol. Either way, good question!
