because he was the father of both of her children and didnt want the evidence around. i recall nothing in the movie or book that indicated that he sold them but he did give them away.

I believe he sold them. It was a money 'thing'. No, tonibaloney . . . because at the end of the movie it's revealed that he was not Celie's REAL dad, but in fact her step-dad.
