Do you have a favourite "intercultural" film?!

Question: By "intercultural" I just mean a film which represents more than one culture, eg, "East is East" - about Pakistani people living in Britain.

I have to do an analysis for Uni and I'm struggling to think of a film that I can analyse, so if you know of any really good ones, I'd really appreciate your suggestion.
Thanx,

Spanglish
Hiroshima Mon Amour
The Last Samurai
Anna and The King

How about "Crash"?

Bend it Like Beckham!

I am not sure if this is a "intercultural" film but I would say Dangerous Minds

Save the Last Dance
Othello
Mississippi Burning
Mississippi Masala (or any Mira Nair movie)

(I sense a trend here)

I'm not sure if this is appropriate but "This is England" is an amazing British film about punk culture and the BNP and the problem people have with immigrants in Britain.

Not necessarily my favourite, but it's the first that came to mind: West Side Story.

freedom writters

I know this is very different from the other suggestions, but how about The Namesake?

It's a pretty recent movie set in New York and looks at the relationships between immigrant parents (very traditional) and their very well integrated children. It also has Kal Penn from of all things 'Harold and Kumar get the munchies/go to White Castle', doing something pretty serious.

My Beautiful Laundrette, Mississippi Masala, The Wedding Banquet are a few pretty good ones.

Try "The Quiet Man" a John Ford film starring John Wayne and Maureen O'hara. It's a culture-clash movie about a (then) modern American who moves to an Irish village that's essentially still in the 19th century!

The story tells of the friction when the American tries to instill 20th century American morals and habits on this tiny little backwards village.

It's a wonderful film that won the Academy award for Best Picture, Best Photography, and several others! Try it! You'll love it, too!

Not sure if this will help - but you could try - 'Gandhi' and 'Seven Years in Tibet(Brad Pitt)'. Why not do a Yahoo Search - just type in Intercultural movies or Pakistanis in Britain or something like that and I'm sure you will find what you are looking for. Good Luck .

In America
The Gods Must Be Crazy (part 1)
The Debut
Maria Full Of Grace
Stranger Than Paradise
The Wedding Banquet
The Lover
An American In Paris
The Dreamers
Dirty Pretty Things
Le Divorce
Lost In Translation
Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle
My Beautiful Laundrette
The Guru
The Joy Luck Club
El Norte
Scoop
Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story

... That's all I can remember. Good luck!
