How could Lea know how Padme looked?!

I read a Star Wars novel that was written before the prequels where it said that Leia lived with her mother and Bail until she was about 2 and then her mother died. George Lucas modified the history for the prequels. Some SW fans try to reason that Leia remembers Padme because the baby Leia's eyes were open and Luke's were not. It doesn't really make sense, but there's quite a few mistakes in the Star Wars series. ^_^ We love it anyway!
Seems to me that they screwed up on the movie, cause she died giving birth, there is no way she could have any memories.......How frickin retarded, I never thought about it...good looking out though.

Ok, Episode 3 came out how long ago? And you are just realizing this now?
There could be many explanations about Leia's statement. It could be that she is mistaking her step mom for her mom. But, of course, that's a stretch. What the real question should be, is why doesn't Leia think it's odd that Luke is talking about her "real" mother? How did Luke know Leia was adopted? She never mentioned it to him. Or maybe she did, in the years between episodes.
The real truth lies in the fact that Lucas should never have killed of Padme during childbirth. Originally, he had Padme dying while Leia was a child, which would make her statement make sense. As it stands, Luke should have more memories of Padme, as he is a few minutes older. But, oh well. The glory of storytelling, and not doing the proper research.
