About the movie "The Virgin Suicides"?!

Question: I had a friend and she was really crazy about this movie. She said it put her in a short of "trance" or daydreaming. She said that the movie's meaning was purely innocent, about 5 girls who were beautiful like angels.
But when I sat down and saw it, I realized that that was only partly right. The little girl Cecilia had suicided because she found it hard being a 13-old girl. But all the others wanted to have fun with boys but they finally suicided because they felt too restricted inside their very strict family.
I know this movie is based on a book.

If you have seen this movie, what is your opinion?

i bought this dvd a couple of weeks ago myself, seen it when it first came out, but think i fell asleep HA HA HA

but i like this movie, its original, and a very sad story. it certainly didnt put me in any trance tho. i dont think they were supposed to be angel like (the kisten dunst one certainly wasnt an angel)

i think the point of this film was to protray how even tho you know people you never know whats going on behind closed doors, the film doesnt go into much of the details of what was happening to them, i think it actually points at further abuse, but thats just me i guess

with teenage suicide rates on the up, its a scary to believe that a group of children would commit mass suicide for such trivial things (ie their parents being a bit strict) but then again their pain can be just as strong as adults

thats my theory tho the not knowing, the boys do go on about how little they actually knew about the girls a lot thru the film, if i remember correctly

you dont know anything from people from observation

I think all these girls were very depressed and maybe even molested although it never says. It is a very dark movie and the book in my opinion is very good. Thoes girls thought that suicide was the only way out of this world and thought of death as an a better place. at least that is what I got out of it.
