Was Fred Savage in it?

can you be a little more specific. Anything you remember from it? Any character that sticks out in your mind?

Are you thinking about The Last Starfighter?
The teen had such good scores on a game that the aliens wanted him to be in their military.

It is definetley:

The Wizard (1989)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098663/

Corey (Fred Savage of "The Wonder Years") and Jimmy Woods (Luke Edwards) are two brothers who are being separated due to their parents divorcing. Jimmy is a mentally unstable kid that has had problems ever since his sister died at a young age. One day, Corey discovers that Jimmy has a natural talent for playing video games. He is one of the best around, and the two journey to the West Coast to compete in a video game championship, but along the way, they must avoid the adults, who are trying to take Jimmy away.

Great movie! Also starring Christian Slater as the older brother and Beau Bridges as their father and an uncredited film debut of Tobey Maguire (Spiderman, etc.).

Its basically an hour and a half long commerical for Nintendo, which is awesome.

Yep ill have to agree with everyone else that it was definitely The Wizard

The Whiz? or wiz?

Hey There =)

The movie you described is definitely "The Wizard" - Set in Utah, and starring Fred Savage, Luke Edwards, Jenny Lewis (before her most recent musical days), and they even threw Christian Slater into the mix.

Corey (Fred Savage) refuses to let his emotionally disturbed younger brother Jimmy (Luke Edwards) be institutionalized, and the two run away together. They soon join forces with a resourceful girl (Jenny Lewis), who notices that Jimmy has a special talent: he is a "wizard" at video games and gets the high score on absolutely everything he plays. Evading their parents and a sinister bounty hunter, the trio head for a climactic showdown at the video game championships in California.

For the time frame it was made, it was indeed an inside look at the world of video gamers that left kids cheering the whole way.

All in all....it was a good movie!

Hope that helps =) Have a PHENOMENAL day....
