Question: realize he picked the wrong side, by being traitorous. At least that was what I got from the hunchback's expression. Leonidus said something about living forever, but didn't get the whole thing or if it was reference to something else.

The Hunchback was technically a Spartan though his deformaties kept him as an outcast. In the Spartan society the greatest glory and honor a man could achieve was to die in battle, to have a "Glorious Death". So when Leonidus says "may you live forever", he is basically saying he wants him to live in shame and without honor.

"You there, Ephialtes. May you live forever."

So he would know of his treason and double dealing.

as to the outfit, that's anyone's guess

Leonidas said that so, the hunchback would have guilt about betraying his own kind for the rest of his life

The one thing the hunchback asked of Xerxes was to have a uniform because Leonidus denied him one.
