Instead of using a cast iron tip to his lance, which would just cause blunt force trauma, he used a tip made of sugar, which would shatter upon impact with his opponents armor and expose the sharp wooden tip of the lance. The wooden tip is so sharp that after piercing the opponent's armor it will still be sharp enough to stab him.

I believe what Ademar did to his lance is called "tipping" in this movie because after it happened, Wat (the page with the red hair) said, "he tipped it".

To sum it up... it's cheating to use that kind of tip on your lance because it has the potential to do much more damage to your opponent than your own regulation lance.

He used a special lance that ended up stabbing Ulrich during a match.

The specila lance was sharpened at the end watch the movie again if you can AWSOME movie

beneath that weak metal thing shaped like a fist on the end of his lance, there was a giant strong metal tip that was against the rules.
