Sounds like Orlando, with Tilda Swinton. Based on a Virginia Woolf novel of the same name. Actually 1992, though.
There was a movie called "Switch", with Perry King as the philandering guy who's murdered by his mistresses and he's reincarnated (or something) as a woman (Ellen Barkin). That may be it. It also had Jimmy Smits in it.
The guy is sent back to live as a drop-dead gorgeous woman so he learns what it's like to be treated like he treated women (as objects), and won't be able to get to heaven (or something) until he finds one person who loves him unconditionally. Turns out he has to have a baby to do it - then he dies.
Sounds vaguely similar to a movie of the late 60's or early 70's called GOOD BY CHARLIE. Charlie was a real womanizer and lived in a beach house with his best friend. He was shot and thrown overboard from a boat, by I believe, a jealous husband. A beautiful woman with amnesia shows up naked at the beach house and turns out to be Charlie reincarnated. She ends up being killed, I believe, by a jealous wife and she (Charlie) then shows up at the house reincarnated as a Great Dane. I don't remember who the stars were or any other details, other than it was a really good movie.
