I think it was totally uncalled for and unnecessary. To me, it kind of ruins the story. Because now people are going to be reading into anything he says to ANY male. Especially Harry. It ruins the story. I'm just going to act like she didn't say it, because I don't want it to ruin it for me. She shouldn't have said it. She should have just left it alone. For those of us who read the books, we know it doesn't matter with ANYTHING in the story... But for those who only watch the movies, I'm sure they will be looking at everything he does and not focusing on what is really going on. But to answer, it makes me REALLY mad!!! Sorry if this is a rant!

it IS weird, and unexpected, but still it doesnt change of what i think about the books

Considering that she is finished with the series now, why would she want to announce such a thing? I think this must be a joke or something!

Seemed a bit unnecessary. But people were asking for background information, and I suppose they shouldn't complain if she tells them something they don't like.

Omg!!!! I need to go to read the book. Seriously?!

why not? it is the authors right to do with her characters as she wishes. it makes as much sense as anything else in this life!

i think it is great. the Christians already hate it because they say it promotes witchcraft, and i think this just fuels the flame even more!

How can she change it after she already finished the series?

i dont know... now if i thought about the harry potter books, i still dont see dumbledore being gay...

i dont really like this weird twist..

=S

I read this this morning and I called my sister up and I had to tell her! That's how shocking I found it lol. My sister thinks it's kind of sensible because he wasn't married or anything. Still, kind of a shocker, right?

I was a bit surprised by this announcement however I still love the books and the movies :)

I think it was very brave and dont see any problems with it. Now of course there will be homophobics who will start one heck of a hate mob. But if anything it cements in popular fiction that we are in theory all the same gay straight black white.

I say bravo.

She knows that the majority of males that read her books are gay, so it helps sale her books even more.

she didn't make him gay. he's always been. it was pretty obvious tough.
btw i don't rele like the last book. it's all confusing and stuff. i mean she didn't actually explained it all IN the book. u have to read and follow the news on the net just to find out what happens

well he always seemed like a jolly possum and what difference doe's his sexuality make anyway? (especially now he is dead )(or is he after all he is a wizard)

First: None of the books say anywhere that Dumbledore is gay.
Second: What if he's gay? It's a minor detail with no actual importance.

I really don't get it. What's the point of outing him now? It just seems kind of weird to me that she would announce it now. I'm not bothered that he's gay but I don't understand why she would start the controversy now instead of when the books were coming out.

Come on, how could you NOT think Dumbledore was gay? He was pretty flamboyant. And the only wizard Voldemort ever feared single? I think not. It actually makes perfect sense to me. There are so many great minds out there that are gay. He's kind of like Merlin. But I think that JK rowling needs to tell his story now. Well, once she's ready to write again.

I think it,s so silly the way people are reacting.Im fine with Dumbledore being gay i always loved his character in the books he was soo wise,And isnt that more important?Im fine with him being gay.And also COME ON people he is a character in a book!GEEZ. now lets say a third grader was reading these books.well when i was in third grade i already knew what GAY meant.its nothing bad and definetly nothing to make fun of.i think this makes Dumbledores character even more interesting.

It was a bit of a surprise but he isn't exactly a ladies man. I thought though if anyone was gay it would be Snape though, the way he looks at Potter sometimes.

It isn't random. Remember she developed the characters. He was gay from the start. She didn't just make it up out of the blue...it's just something she never Incorporated into the books. It doesn't really make any difference to the books which is why she left it out. I am sure there are a lot of things that she left out about all of the characters and tons of re-writes where she went back and changed the story lines.

I think it is kind of neat that she released this little tid-bit of information. It's almost like a blooper reel...getting to know a little of the behind the scenes antics.

In all actuality most homosexual men are more in touch with themselves, know who they are and are more in tune with things around them. So for me it makes sense that Dumbledore is gay.

WTF i've got to check mugglenet... WOW thats suprising

Dumbledore is.... not real.....

As easy as that.... Rowlings apparently meant that her portrayal of the character was meant to suggest homosexuality...

Not a fan of potter, but I guess she hasn't heard of Larry Craig - by that standard the entire cast is gay (since "gay" doesn't have a mold)...

I think it's great--good for her! She had just about everything in her books anyway, why not a gay character?

I think it's excellent. Kids need a good gay role model in the books and movies they like to read--it supports tolerance and teaches them that stereotypes aren't true. I wish it would have actually been stated in her books, but it doesn't matter. Maybe it will change some teenager's views about homosexuals with such a powerful, good character being gay.

My only problem with it is that it seems like an afterthought. I couldn't read anything gay into Dumbledore's character from the movies (I never read the books, I'll admit).

So it looked like a way to cozy up to LGBT's. Which is okay, but if she had really meant the character to be gay, it should have been something that could have been inferred from his actions, not just an add-on after the fact.

It's soooo lame. Why would she do this now? After allllllllllllllllll the movies and books and the millions she has raked in?

MONEY
FAME

She didn't do it before she got as far as she wanted to take the books and movies. So she didn't want anyone to know it back then. Why? Kids books, those who think it's wrong or not necessarily entertainment to know he's a gay character.

So why now? Because she can't LOSE any money, not enough to matter to her.

But she wants more fame, more interviews, more interest. She can't lose all the money she's made.

I think it's pathetic. It has nothing to do with pro gay or anti gay, it's a lame shot at furthering her celebrity.

It's right up there with her making an adult video. Same thing. Renewed interest in her.

I didn't think they were gay, I thought they were just friends/ world domination partners.

I HATE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY DIDNT YOU GIVE A BETTER TITLE THAN THAT TO YOUR QUESTION!!!

YOU COULD HAVE SAID "HARRY POTTER QUESTION WITH SOPILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im so pissed off i could die.

What to expect from a Far Left Liberal?

I however always thought there was something between him and Minerva.

This does not make any sense.

This is what happens when gossip goes unchecked. The ACTOR who played dumbledore was gay in real life. Apparently the rumor mill has changed this into something else.

what are you talking about? there wasn't anything sexual between dumbledore and grindelwald! they were just friends!
read the 7th book again!
