Why do peopele say that star wars episode 1 the phantom menace sucked so bad and!

Question: i thought it was okay.

Answers: i thought it was okay.

I dont get the racist deal. Dont see any connection to blacks or asians with any of the charectors.

Yes i didnt like Jar Jar but the story line was a good way to introduce Anakin and how he became evil.

I also ask the same thing about Ep 2 and 3.

I thought they were very well done and i'm glad they were all made.

The only thing i didnt like about 3, and this isnt putting down the movie directly, but the original script, writen in 1983 (or maybe earlier if rumors are true), was a little different.

Different charector names (Padme was a different name)

the real reason for the fight between Anakin and Obi-wan was differnt.

In the original, a crystal of extreme force powers is discovered (at the beggining of the movie vs the end), on Mustufar (the lava world). The Jedi see it as a way to balance out the force, but Palpetine (the emporer) sees it as a way to solidify his powers.

He sends anakin to retrive it and the jedi send Obi-wan

their battle happen at the beggining of that script and it goes more into how he becomes Darth Vader at that point.

Also, Padme is arrested (or captured) after the Emporer takes power, and is killed trying to escape.

A deleted scene in Ep 3 has Ackbar, Mon Mothma, Padme, and several others meeting to discuss actions to fight the empire, and was called "Birth of a rebellion"

Also, and i really wish this had been put in the final script,

After the emporer takes power, he blockades Corouscant (the capitol planet) to keep the government on planet and under tight control. However Ackbar, Mon Mothma, and a small group of soldiers, pilots, and ships fight their way off planet. these would be the original members of the rebel alliance.

I thought after watching Ep 3 that it would have been better to have shown more of the birth of the rebellion, and that they left too much out on this.

I remember not long before Ep 3 came out that they were showing pictures of the younger Mon Mothma and was waiting to see how they would portray her early days. But was dissapointed that the only scene with her in it was deleted (can be found on dvd).

Nowadays, people look for whatever reason they can to be offended. Many felt that Jar Jar was a stereotype of black people, something I totally disagree with. Jar Jar though, was definitely a low point in that franchise, and many rightfully hated the character.

Some also thought that the Aliens in the Trade Federation sounded Asian, while I can understand why they think that, I fail to see why it is offensive.

While it may not be as bad a movie as some say, it definitely was a let down. It was not as good as the original trilogy, and people had waited many years to return to that familiar story, people almost couldnt help but be let down.

The Good.
Liam Neeson
Darth Maul
Great lightsaber battle in the end.

The Bad
Jar Jar
Anakin (horrible acting)

Some Jews thought Watto the Blue Flying Turtle with the hooked nose was a "negative stereotype" & some Jamaicans thought Jar Jar Bink's character was a negative stereotype too. Pulease! I even heard soem Muslims got pissed bc of the sand/ camels on Tatooine. Great movie but enough CGI! Lol.

I really like Mark's answer, I never knew so much about all that stuff. But some of these concerns over Star Wars go way back as well. All the way to the first film made, episode 4. For later episodes Lucas brought on Laurence Kasdan to help with the script, and characters. Kasdan is a filmmaker, and not the creative person behind the scenes. One of the first things he did was make Lando Calrisian(bad spelling I know) black, and then just start chopping away at useless dialogue. It helped streamline the story, and really make it more real. These are the things that really lacked in the first three episodes, since Lucas' characters sometimes just seem childish, like the whole Padme, Skywalker falling in love scenes, they are just horrible. So while I doubt it was his intention to use racist stereotypes for Jar Jar and his people, or the trade fed guys, or the flying bug guy, you start adding all of them up and it just makes you look bad. More the result of poor decisions made during script writing than anything intentional.
