Looking for scary PG-13 Movies - Know any besides...?!
Question: The Grudge, the Ring, Poltergeist, Sixth Sense. (we've seen all of those)
Our soon to be 13 year old is having 4 other 13 year olds over for a sleepover the weekend before Halloween. We're trying to find a scary PG-13 movie that none of them have seen.
We're thinking about "The Others" and "Monster Squad." If you've seen either of those - I'd love your comments.
PLEASE don't list R rated movies. I don't need to know about those.
PG-13 only, please. And scary! Thanks!!

There is no such thing as a scary PG-13. No such thing as a scary film at all, to be honest with you, unless Julia Roberts is in it.
Monster Squad is a classic!!!
1408 is PG-13
The Birds and Jaws are not PG-13, but are pretty scary, and The Sixth Sense is good too.

The Others with Nicole Kidman....spooky. The kids will absolutely love it! We watch it every time it'sn. Have fun!!
I actually just watched the Monster Squad. It is more geared to kids as the kids in this movie are the heros.
The Others is a little hard to follow and they might get bored with it.
If they are up for an older movie (black & white), the original The Haunting with Julie Harris is pretty good and it's rated G. Also, House on Haunted Hill (B&W) with Vincent Price (unrated).
Dark water is a good scary movie

I loved The Others..I thought it was quite creepy..
The Skeleton Key is PG-13..but other than that and the ones you already listed, I think you are going to have a hard time.

Stay Alive is PG-13, and is a rather scary flick about a video game that becomes real.
Another decent one (for kids, anyway) is Darkness Falls which is about local old lady who plays tooth fairy for the kids but then is blamed for a murder and comes back to haunt the town.
Salem's Lot was a great vampire movie adapted from Stephen King's novel Salem's Lot. I loved that one! Critters was also a really good one. Scary for the kids. Lots of little "critters" jumping out of funny places. I hope they help.
I saw "The Others". I really enjoyed it. There were a couple of times during the movie that I almost jumped from my seat. You would probably really enjoy it if you enjoyed the Ring.

Go for the oldies.....Frankenstein, Wolf man, Dracula....... they still scare the pants off of me . Hey, if it doesn't scare them, then least they might get a good laugh.
Another really, really scary one is the 1980 something version of "The Thing" staring Kurt Russell. I can't imagine that it's rated R. It has Kurt Russell for goodness sake. It has no sex and if I recall some F words and lots of gore.
By the way , the fact that your going to have 5, 13 years old over night is more frighting then ANY horror movie I've seen. Set up a video camera and record one of your own. Have fun.
