Question: watced the movie last night but towards the end i had a phone call so couldn't listen to it
i know that the aliens died at the end but i missed out on the reason

It was the disease and the germs that attack the aliens. Because from the outer space, there is no germs in the atmosphere. Therefore these aliens have no immunity systems in their body to fight the germs like we do. So slowly they suffered from all sorts of sickness in the air that they inhaling. The gigantic machines they using have fall down one by one. And then at the end one of the alien came out from the machine and try to inhale the air. But few seconds later (the camera closeup on the alien's face) it dries up instantly.
And the movie ends with the narration.
"From the moment the invaders arrived, breathed our air, ate and drank, they were doomed. They were undone, destroyed, after all of man's weapons and devices had failed, by the tiniest creatures that God in his wisdom put upon this earth. By the toll of a billion deaths, man had earned his immunity, his right to survive among this planet's infinite organisms. And that right is ours against all challenges. For neither do men live nor die in vain. "

The birds kill the aliens i think/or somthing gives them disease
They catch cold from the humans. They have no immunity to it. See the first movie if you can.

The aliens died because they could not adopt to our environment. Tom Cruise and family were reunited. happy ending...
I recommend the book more than the movie though.

because they couldn't live on the planet because the atmosphere is different and all that jazz.
its a shite film anyways...I fell asleep twice while trying to watch it.

That movie was SO BORING! The original is WAY better.
The aliens catch the common cold from us humans. The original is soo much better then the Tom Cruise version.
They were doomed from the moment they got here.Thay had no defence from the diseses we are immune to.

they come out of there metal pod things. they are allergic to our atmosphere. and died. also at the end something i thought was very strange the whole world is ruined, and in a mess yet, his family just happen to be OK and the row of houses with they live still happens to still be intact.

This is the second Hollywood version of the book. Both films are inaccurate (the first one was wildly out in it's portrayal of the Martians).
PLEASE read the book. It's set just outside Guildford rather than in the USA and the characters and scenarios are so much better. The 'hero' is about as far from Tom Cruise as you can get.
That's often the case where a film is made from a book. Hollywood producers insist on mangling it.
The Martians were killed by native airborne bacteria because they had no immunity to Earthling germs.

That movie was really bad. Try the original, 1953, it is a lot better. The best is to get a recording of Orson Welles 1938 Mercury Theater radio production of "The war of the Worlds". It panicked the nation. I love it.
