Star Wars Movies?!

Question: Do you think he should redo the originals Star Wars, Empire and Return of the Jedi? They were great but nowadays so much more can be done. When I say redo I mean new actors the whole thing not just the added scens he did.

No. Think about it, do you really think there is another actor out there that could play Han Solo? ... how about Luke or Leia. It would ruin the very thing that made the movies so good in the first place. I liked the SE versions but some of the things like "Who shot first" between Han and Greedo cause outrage among fans. I'm sorry but do you really think Han Solo would let a nobody like Greedo get the drop on him ... no way. Luke screaming as he jumped in to the trash shoot was a bad one too. Other than that the other "upgrades" in the SE were pretty good. The DVD version still screwed with the Han/Greedo thing but it's ok ... they took out the "scream". The addition of the scene in TESB that has the "conversation" between Vader and Palpatine talking about Luke was a great change as it made the scene fit much better with what had come from the pre-quels. The only really bad thing that was changed in the DVD version was the "Force Ghost" of Anakin at the end of ROTJ. You won't find a lot of fans who buy the reason that Lucas gave for that but hey, it's his story to tell ... even if he tells it wrong at the end ... lol ...

To loco_tech85:

Actually there were supposed to be 12 episodes when Lucas first came up with the base idea for Star Wars. He was thinking it would be like the old Flash Gordon series that came to movie houses back in the day ... a half hour kind of thing that would come out in pieces. Seeing that that wouldn't work he broke the story down to 3 trilogys. The first was to be about the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker ... the second was to be about the rise of Luke Skywalker and the redemption of Anakin Skywalker ... the third was to be about the "other Skywalker" that Yoda spoke of in TESB. At that point Leia wasn't the "other Skywalker". It wasn't until Lucas was trying to flesh out the script for ROTJ that he realized that Leia had to be the other Skywalker. Lucas was at the point of the duel between Vader and Luke on DS2 where Luke was "hiding" from Vader and refusing to fight. Lucas was stumped on coming up with something that would send Luke into a rage and send him all out to stop Vader. That reason became Vader threatening Leia. In truth a lot of the stuff that would have made up the third trilogy ended up being cramed into ROTJ.

I join you in wishing Lucas would find something to do the last 3 movies on but it can't be based on any of the books that have come out because they all invole the "Big 3" of Luke, Leia & Han. Of the three who played these roles only Mark Hamil would be available. Ford has said he will never reprise his role of Han ... in truth Lucas had to do some heavy talking to get him to come back for ROTJ because Ford didn't see where they could take the character that would add to the story. Carrie, well seeing her in the "metal bikini" right now would just be a little wrong ... she hasn't aged gracefully. The only way that would fit in with all the books is for him to take the story a couple of hundred years into the future when the "Big 3" would be dead and start a new story. I'd bet my left one that it will never happen but you never know with Lucas.
NO!!!

.
Hell no - those films are absolute classics and changed not only the way movies are made but the way we watch movies. They are much better than all the over the top CG stuff you see these days!
No - they are perfect just as they are. Newfangled CGI does not necessarily equal a better movie.
Nope I don't think so... If you had asked to redo the special effects that still ca be done and who knows after 10 years if George found a new way to change the special effects like a couple of years ago.
Redoing the Star Wars movies, that made such wonderful special effects advancements, would be like redoing Clash of the Titans. Although it could be re-done to look more realistic it would loose something in the process.

As they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

However, I also prefer the old black and white scary movies that made you use some imagination to today's slasher flicks that just show it all to you and leave you feeling a little desensitized with one exception, the "Saw" films.
OMG NO. If someone else wanted to do it may be fun to see what would happen but Lucas has become to into him self to ever accomplish anything remotely as successful as the previous starwar movies.

Look at what he has done with the dance routine at Jaba the hut's palace in Return of the Jedi re-release.
Nope. I think Lucas has already done enough to them. Too much, really. I liked the changes in the 1997 Special Editions, but I wasn't much impressed with the changes in the 2004 versions.
If i were to watch them yes i would like them to be up to scratch but i've only seen Episode 4 and i cant be bothered watching the rest especially as i didn't really pay attention to that either.
I wouldnt like 4 5 and 6 redone. Those are iconic, they are what made us fall in love with star wars....it would be blasphimy
No,
not even changing the sounds of the movie

Its a classic movie from whatever point of view anybody sees it
No, I don't. Those movies are classics and shouldn't be tampered with. What I would like to see, is George Lucas write and produce the last 3 movies. Originally the Star Wars series was supposed to be 3 trilogies. I would like to see him do the last 3 - especially since there have been so many novels written after the destruction of the Empire.
