The story. Special effects don't mean anything when you dont like or understand the plot of it all

i watch for it all. if the story is good but the special effects suck it is not done properly. so its not good. If the story is bad, than nothing else matters.

Both, if it's one that will have special effects I notice those too.... but the story too of course if it's a story I am not attractive i won't see it even if it has cool special effects.

I really enjoy films with a great story - I think that special effects should only be used to tell that story.

In my opionion, if a film is done really well you shouldn't even notice the special effects the first time you see it. If I watch a film and notice them, it's usually because the story isn't compelling enough.

Depends on how good the story is. Something like Transformers yes i enjoyed watching it but mainly because of the effects. Other movies like The Matrix (1st film) its a bit of both

Definitely the story. there have been lots of terrible films that showed nothing but great effects. Without an interesting plot there's nothing. Let's put it like this: you can't have dinner without actual food no matter how beautiful your silver platter and your china are.

Yep I watch for the special effects and the story but it has to really capture me or I ditch it or fall asleep. I used to spend alot of time sleeping in theatres when I watched a movie like the good on days before all the dvds and home theatres etc!!
