Question: It is undoubtedly degrading. Look who they have judging: Jack Black! Now, if it had been cast with a man who is considered movie-star handsome, perhaps it might have been interesting.
And, from the clips I've seen, they showed impossible things happening. When are they going to get over the pool-splashing and tipping stuff! That doesn't happen! It encourages making fun of people, which seems to be acceptable to people who would protest about other such bigotry.
People talk about racism, but there's more bigotry against overweight people, and everyone goes along with it. I have friends who are overweight and relatives, too, and I know how hurt they can be by this attitude.

I think it's a little degrading...although they're trying to make it seem like they're trying to prove it's on the inside that counts they implied if your overweight you cant possible be pretty or attractive
That is the point of the film. Hal looks beyond the surface to see the inner soul inside. Not only encouragine to BBWs, but to all people who, for whatever reason, do not look "normal".
i think it is encouraging because they are saying it is not looks that makes a person it is their personality. and if someone cant see that it isnt all looks then that person is shallow for not getting to know people for themselves.
