Hi. She (the kidnapper) didn't go to jail for five years -- her 5-year sentence was suspended on condition that she not approach or contact the teen-aged girl.
Our whole family watched this (it was a good flick). The 100% agreement here is that early on the authorities should have ensured (demanded) that ALL people concerned should have had access/visitation rights with the girl. Had that happened, it's highly likely so many of the later problems (tragedies) would not have occurred.
