I think it's one of his most overlooked films, and he does a wonderful job of portraying a man who wonders if he shouldn't give in to his parents and acquaintances and find a different line of work. Kathleen Quinlan has an early role in this one.

His hair is rather shaggy, but it's not as long as it is in "Frogs", a really bad Nature-strikes-back film that at least stars Ray Milland. That's the first film I saw Sam Elliott in, and it was fan at first sight!

I LOVE his role in "Roadhouse", but that one receives much more attention. So, I wanted to mention "Lifeguard". Yea! Someone named "Mask".

The only reason I watched "Legacy" is because of him. It's not THAT bad, but it's pretty awful in parts. No wonder they don't show it anymore though I'd be curious enough to take another look.
