A Clockwork Orange: worth seeing?!

Question: What's your opinion on the movie after seeing it?

Is it something that might be unreasonably disturbing for a woman (i know there's rape in it)?

Is this one of those movies you DO or DONT watch wtih a member of the opposite sex?

Why is it worth seeing?

Why is it worth seeing?
MY OPINION?:
I believe it to be one of the most artistic films ever created. It's also one of the few movies that keeps true to the book the most. This is the only movie that I guard with my life in my DVD library and it's the only movie that I would take a DVD copy of to my grave.

WOMENS' REACTION?:
The movie has remained the #1 most controversial movie in the world from 1971-2004 (replaced by Passion of the Christ for its anti-semetic undertones.) Though a rape takes place, it's very much downplayed. It's not as bad as today's film rape scenes due to the time that has passed since its release. It was shocking for its time; but the most "controversial scenes" would be Alex's then-considered pornographic sex scene with 2 girls he meets at a record store and Alex's misinturpretations of the Holy Bible in prison. (He sees death as entertainment and does not understand the reasoning or the "moral of the story" aspects in the bible.) Although artistic, this shouldn't bother women today due to the sexual content being outdated by today's grotesque displays of rape/torture seen in today's slashers.

OPPOSITE SEX?:
I first watched this movie with my mom and then with my girlfriend and it didn't cause a stir. They saw Alex's behavior for what it was - depraved - but they understood its necessity to the plot as well as the most important factor in watching a movie deemed controversial: it's just a movie.

WORTH SEEING?:
It's a main staple of pop-culture and a legend in film history. It tells how one man can be so evil and why. You get to see the reasoning of a madman and realize that not only do you understand him and get why he does what he does, you also discover you are not that much different. The movie has gone down in history as one of the most important films. In many books, it's listed as one of the 100-1,000 movies to see before you die.
Very disturbing...and stupid
Yes, because its not the same usual crap you see everyday..

EDIT:well I only read the book but they said the movie lives up to it.
Oh man, its an AWESOME movie!
I enjoyed it : ]

Im a girl, and i didnt think it was really disturbing, ive seen worse.

You could watch it with the opposite sex. I did lol
It depends on your tastes really. I could tell you it's the best movie ever, and you might hate it. It is interesting, but it is also quite strange. I'd say you have to watch it at least once in your life.
For a 30 year old movie, It's has a Quentin Tarantino-ish quality. Very fast paced, oddball, and super-out there. If you like wild movies..go rent it.
i like it.
I dont really have a reason.
Just do....
and I started to read the book, so I had to watch the movie.
and yes some parts, some people may find disturbing.
you will never see the song 'singing in the rain' the same again! i thougth it was a waste of my time
It's worth see due to it being not only a cult classic, but one of the more famous movies from Cubric. I watched this flick for the first time with my gf, and she really didn't like it, saying "it was a lil weird...TOO weird lol." You have to realize, it's an old movie, so it's very different from todays flicks. I say, check it out regardless.
no dont see it, it is disturbing. your life will be better without viewing this.
I saw it as a kid with my older sister and her friends - maybe that's what's wrong with me!

It was a groundbreaking, film as art type of movie. Now I'm going to have to see it again.

Stanley Kubrick is t!ts, baby!
yes, this movie is worth seeing, but you should go into it knowing that it will be very disturbing. it does have rape and many other disturbing situations and it's pretty depressing. however, it is a classic and the book is a literary staple, so as part of your cultural education i'd recommend it. visually, it's really great, too. it's dated, but i think it still holds up today.
as far as watching with the opposite sex.....idk what you mean. it's not a good movie for making out to, if that's what you mean! and if you're watching with someone you don't know well, or you're uptight, you'll probably be very uncomfortable.
happy viewing!
It's supposed to be a classic but , I can't get past the rape scene. It was so unnecessary. I'm not squeamish or prudish. But it was not my cup of tea. The irony is, I love Malcolm Mc Dowell. He is one of the best actors of all time. That was his break out film, and I still never watched the whole thing.
Definately worth it. Lots of swearing, the main characters make a lot of allusions to sex. Its peachy to watch it with anyone (except your parents, that might be weird).

An amazing movie. Really different, so if you like different, then see it. It puts a lot of movies you've seen before that in perspective. It sets the bar for conceptual movies.

Gotta warn you though, you might have to watch it twice. The problem with any movie that doesn't fit the usual mold is its easy to miss a lot the first time around. I did, and it makes more sense every time you watch it.
I did not like A Clockwork Orange (didn't like the book either). I, personally found the rape scene very disturbing. If you have ever been sexually assaulted the scene could be overwhelming There are some other disturbing scenes as well. Not gory but realistic and done in a way that will make you feel very uncomfortable (it's supposed to). That being said I think it is a movie that everyone should see at some point or another. It raises very interesting questions about what's right and wrong, and how much right a person has to free will. Hopefully it will leave you thinking. As far as seeing it with someone of the opposite sex; I don't think it matters.

And I have to agree with renowalk. You will probably need to see it more than once.
The movie is a classic, definitely worth seeing. As for the rape scenes, and the "ultraviolence" you just have to look past it, because this film does have a message.
It's probably a good movie for everyone to watch once, but I can't say that it's enjoyable. I saw it years ago and it's not the kind of movie you ever forget. It is very disturbing and it really messes with your mind. In fact, some colleges used to recommend it for psyche majors.
