Is "Into the Wild" going to be released in more theaters?!

Question: Fandango says it has been released already, 2 weeks ago. But the local movie theaters don't have it. What gives? I want to see this movie!

Hi. I'm a major movie buff, and I read Entertainment Weekly like it's the Bible and watch the Oscars just in case God decides to attend.

Into the Wild will not go into a larger market right now, UNLESS (and there's just no way of knowing): the studio backing the film sees a high profit margin and high attendance levels, like lots and lots of sell-outs even two weeks after the original release. This is very unlikely because this movie is available to see in at least one or two theaters in every larger city. Yes, it's a limited release, but it could be a lot smaller.

Here's the skinny on when you'll get to see it, most likely in the theaters: When it wins a Golden Globe (first possible chance, assuming that happens), or when it gets nominated for an Oscar. The Golden Globe nominations are announced on Dec. 13th and the Golden Globe Awards is on Jan.13th. Your best shot of getting to see it is if it gets nominated for an Oscar. If it hasn't shown up in a theater near you by around New Years, wait for the Academy Award Nominations to be announced (5:30 am Cali time) on Jan. 22nd.

Sorry if this was more info than you wanted. I hope seeing these actual dates help. I'm sure you already know or have noticed in the past that, as if by magic, movies you thought had left theaters sometimes months before can suddenly return after the holidays. This even occurs with BIG movies. See: The Departed. It was a wide release, was out for months, started to dwindle away-- not completely gone, and then... BAM! It was showing again in almost every theater (in Houston, at least). It continued (amazingly so) to play in theaters for a few weeks after it was released on DVD. This occured, of course, because it won the Oscar for Best Pic. The studios made a little extra cash off the few of us that hadn't yet seen the film, but wanted to catch it on the big screen. It was the best movie of 2006, after all!!!

Good night, and good luck.
