In the movie American Psycho, did Patrick (christian bale) actually commit those!

Question:

In the movie American Psycho, did Patrick (christian bale) actually commit those murders?

Or was it his imagination?

Answers: In the book, it purposely remains unclear as to whether or not he actually committed the crimes. But it makes it seem like it was all in his head in both the book and moives, but it still remains unclear. Scenes such as when he goes back to Paul Allen's apt. after he kills the girls there, but there is absolutely no evidence that anything had occurred. Also, the fact that no one ever talks about the crimes oustide of Patrick, a murder spree like that and the shootout/explosions of the book would definetley be mentioned by someone, even the hollow, self absorbed characters of te story.
He was crazy, but whether or not the crimes actually happened is never definitively stated, just somewhat implied in order for the reader/watcher to draw their own conclusions and increase the dialogue and social commentary of the story. The book/movie is a satyrical look at consumerism, materialism, and ego in the 1980s, the murders are just a way to show that in a creative way.

Great movie, even bettter book. One of my all-time favorite books, as with all of Bret Easton Ellis' other novels. My feeling is that it was all in his head. A pretty sick head, but I don't think he was securely attached to reality. I think he did commit some of them...Patrick's father owned the company he worked for.....His father knew of Patrick's proclivities and hired Willem Dafoe to Investigate, follow, and cover Patrick's tracks for him....I read this somewhere and it sounded pretty cool and something Bret Easton Ellis,(author of the novel movie is based on) would have come up with. That's supposed to be for you to decide. But, no. They were in his mind. If you liked the movie you'll love the book by Bret Easton Ellis. It is hilarious. It really starts to kick in around page 80. Much better than the film. Yes he did...did you ever read the book? It is even more darker than the movie. I thought that it was all in his imagination - didn't someone in the film say that they had just seen Jared Leto's character the night before after he had supposedly been murdered?
