Why was the movie Glory rated R?!

Question:

Why was the movie Glory rated R?

Answers: Well....there was a particular scene where you saw a guys head blown to pieces. PG13 doesnt have blood in the movies...that is why R movies are so good because they contain blood (like 300). just blood gore fighting language and stuff.

they have an edited pg13 one to show in schools becasue it has scenes of gore, and because of some of the language Violence/Bloodshed. Maybe some swearing here & there. The MPAA has thier own specifications regarding how movies are rated. I suspect that it has to do with the amount of violence in it. Since The Civil War was one of the bloodiest wars ever. gory
explicit content The blood and gore... the use of swearing / foul language... the intensity of the battle scenes (people stabbing each other with bayonets) ... etc., etc., etc.

Not exactly the sort of stuff you see on network TV.
