Me, I think this movie hit a bunch of numbers. It shows how power abuse and how were (the US) are not always the good guys in some cases, it went in a bit about racism (towards hispanics, specifically Mexican-Americans), and how people get abused at their own jobs (the detective).

Me, I think this movie hit a bunch of numbers. It shows how power abuse and how were (the US) are not always the good guys in some cases, it went in a bit about racism (towards hispanics, specifically Mexican-Americans), and how people get abused at their own jobs (the detective). I would probably give it a 4 out of 5. It's by far the best performance I've seen by Tommy Lee Jones and Susan Sarandon was excellent as well. Charlize Theron gives a nice performance, but I felt certain aspects of her story were unnecessary - specifically the sexual harassment.
I thought the story was good, but I think it used the war vet as window dressing for a standard, yet well done police procedural. I think the movie is making a political statement both about the Iraq war and the condition of the soldiers returning home from the war, but that almost feels tacked on.
I give the movie 4 out of 5 stars for solid acting and a decent story, but I think the screen play could have been better.
