Can you think of a movie that had a sequel just as good or better?!

Question:

Can you think of a movie that had a sequel just as good or better?

Answers: Alien
Aliens (might edge out #1 slightly)
Alien 3
Alien Resurrection
I happen to like the tetralogy AND AVP!

Gremlins (very weak)
Gremlins 2: The New Batch (much better to me!)

Superman: The Movie
Superman II (better)

Spider-Man
Spider-Man 2 (much, much better!)
(I haven't seen the third one.)

POTC (still my favorite)
POTC 2
(I haven't seen the third one)

Nightmare on Elm Street
Nightmare on Elm Street: Dream Warriors (might surpass the original)

James Bond films with Sean Connery
James Bond films with Pierce Brosnan
"On Her Majesty's Secret Service"
"The Spy Who Loved Me"
"A View to a Kill"

Resident Evil 2
I didn't like the first one at all and haven't seen the third one.

Star Wars saga
I was there at the beginning, and I remain loyal to the films, acknowledging some weaknesses but admiring the whole. I must admit to being partial to IV and V.

the Jurassic Park trilogy
What can I say? I love dinosaurs!

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
I'm a fan of the original Trek and prefer the films based on it. I don't dislike STTMP, but TWOK is my favorite. The Voyage Home also is very good.

Mission: Impossible 2
I didn't care for the others.

Back to the Future trilogy
I watched them end to end and think they're a remarkable body of work.

Crocodile Dundee
Crocodile Dundee II

Speed 2: Cruise Control
Everyone will say I'm crazy, but I liked this one much more than Speed! I like Keanu, Sandra, and Dennis, but it's a lot more fun to see a cruise ship ram its way through a seaside resort!

The Omen
Damien: Omen II
The Final Conflict is admittedly the weak one in the trilogy although Sam Neill certainly made a lot of people remember his name in this role!

EDIT: Oh! Someone mentioned LOTR! How could I have forgotten this brilliant trilogy? Shame on me for overlooking this! I had to come back and add it. Face it, filmgoers have had a lot of treats when it comes to sequels. Some are going to be disappointed; but many will be delighted with those stories that continue.

EDIT2: Someone else mentions The Mummy Returns. You're right! It IS better than the first one though I like to watch both. The effects had improved, and the cast returned. YEA!

I'm certain that I'm forgetting many films here. I could mention the Thin Man series, for one. But, it's getting late, and I have a story forum waiting for me. shrek Back to the Future II
SHREK II
STAR WARS II
GODFATHER II Bourne Identity..
Bourne Ultimatum <= Great movie. The Godfather
The Terminator
The Bourne Identity
Alien
Back to the Future
Star Wars
Lord of the Rings
Die Hard
Kill Bill
Toy Story
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Spiderman
The Matrix
Mission Impossible
Scary Movie
Casino Royale
The Mummy Returns
American Pie
Jurassic Park
Gremlins
Ice Age
Shrek
Indiana Jones
Lethal Weapon
Harry Potter

EDIT: MystMoon, I'm the one that mentioned LOTR and The Mummy Returns. Superman II (1982, I think) was even better than the original. Leonard part 6 Alien. The sequel, Aliens, was just as good if not better. Sme for Terminator, the sequel Terminator 2 was just as good if not better.

However, in general, sequels aren't as good. Shrek 2 was as good as the original but Shrek 3 sucked. Back to the Future.

Star Wars.

Charlies Angels. That I, personally, think was as good or better? Sure... Airplane, Die Hard, Pirates of the Caribbean. grease.

hahah JUST KIDDING.

grease 2 is deff nothing compared to the first one. Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior

Terminator 2: Judgment day the new die hard was really good Toy Story! Toy Story 2 was every bit as good as 1.
Along with that, Lord of the Rings, Return of the King was a sequel, and it got more acclaim than either of the first two. the godfather sherk pirates of the carribian -The original Star Wars, the sequel being Star Wars V (and the best in the series!)
-Spiderman 2 (didn't like 3 that much.)

*Shrek 2 was terrible!! Spider-Man 2--not to be confused with Spider-Man 3. The Bourne Movies have all been excellent.

Shrek 2 and Spider-Man 2 were both just as good if not better than the original. And this made the bad third movies even more disappointing.

I think Star Wars was better than Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi, but they were both solid sequels. And I realize I'm in the minority about Empire.

I think the Harry Potter movies keep getting progressively better as the characters and the stories mature. I can't wait for the 6th and 7th movies. Strictly speaking, I would probably consider each movie to be continuations of the same story rather than sequels, but why split hairs.

Casino Royale took James Bond in a new direction, but I'll take the new Bond over most of the earlier films.

Toy Story 2 was an excellent sequel and I give major props to Pixar for realizing the concept was much better than a direct to video sequel.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was a great sequel and maybe even better than the original. I think the third movie took a step back, but it was very enjoyable. I can't wait for the 4th movie next summer.

Each movie of The Lord of the Rings was great on it's own, but together they make one of the best movies in movie making history. As with Harry Potter, I don't know that I would consider the second and third movies to be sequels.

I think the Lethal Weapon movies were all great as well as the Die Hard movies. Beverly Hills Cop II was great, but I can't really remember the third movie.

The third Mission: Impossible movie was probably better than the first, but we won't even mention the second movie. And I think Rocky Balboa was second only to the original movie.

Whew, that's quite a list. And a compelling argument against the idea that sequels usually suck or aren't as good as the originals. toy story and oceans 12 and pirates...kinda and lord of the rings Godfather II is generally considered better than the original. The third, however, stank. A STAR FOR U!
Holy Moly....no one has mentioned "FIRST BLOOD - II" (Rambo)...or even ROCKY......beverly hill cops, & the list goes on & on & ..................
