That annoying little black dot in the corner of the movie theater screen?!

Question:

That annoying little black dot in the corner of the movie theater screen?

who else sees that? Do you think its annoying?

Answers: The little black dot is actually 1 dot appearing on 4 consecutive frames followed by a second set 7 seconds later.

Before theatres used platter systems, they had to have two side by side projectors for each theatre and those black dots were actually cues for the projectionist. The first set meant to start the second projector and the second set meant to change-over. While there are a still small number of theatres using this two projector method, the cues are mostly obsolete and kept just for those few theatres that still use them.

What I find more annoying is the cap code or watermarking they put on prints. This is a series of colored dots that appear in the middle of the picture. They basically look like a brail character. These dots are used to identify the theatre where pirated copies of a movie were filmed.

For what it's worth, the modern multiplexes we love today were made possible by the platter systems now in use in virtually every theatre. These allow the movie to run continuously without any action by the projectionist besides threading the movie and pressing the start button.

Before the platter system, the projectionist had to be ready for every reel change which happened every 15-20 minutes. In the between time, the projectionist had to rewind the reels so they were ready for the next show. This method is so time consuming that a single projectionist couldn't possibly operate more than 2-3 auditoriums at one time. Source(s):
I have been a theatre manager and projectionist for over 11 years. DUDE!!! seriously I see it in every movie I see. I wonder what it is too. I just have forgotten to ask. Thanks in advance for anyone who answers this. If it's a little black dot...How the heck do you see it?! You must really really really really good eye-sight. Personally, I've never seen the dot, but it definitely sounds like it would be annoying. Watch Fight Club. That movie will explain it.

It's called cigarette burns. The black dot indicates to the person running the film projector that he needs to change to the next reel. There are two dots. the first one is the warning that the reel is going to end and the second one is the beginning of the next reel. Huh? you mean it's back again!? *turns around* PROTECT ME FROM THE DOT!!! IT'S FIGURED OUT WHERE I LIVE!!! i believe it is when a new roll of film is put in. i think it happens every 15 minutes. you should time it next time! im not sure why the little black dot shows up but thats why.
i hope thats the write answer!!!
