Anyone like "Evening?" The movie was awful! I read the book.?

I agree. I was almost bored to tears. Now, I'm not the kinda guy who isn't open to a tearjerker drama, even female-lead driven one. Hell, I liked The Hours (same (co-)screenwriter but not his novel). Problem was- no drama or tears to be found, and for such a good line up of actresses, I found myself not caring an ounce about the outcome.
I like the concept of our parent's, especially a mother's, secret part of their lives -the human part we don't know everything about. But the film didn't work for me at all.

It's what you call an Oscar-courter. Like they sat down and said "well, it's Summer-Blockbuster-comic book-video game-cartoon-sequel time,- so let's round up a few A-list actresses and respectable novel and make an early Oscar contender". But this will get nowhere near the awards nominations (unless all hope is lost!).

Haven't read the book, but I hear it's much different. For even more pontification on this -read my Answer to the Question "Novel Vs. Film" (or something like that) it was a best answer, so I must've said something right.
