Did you buy into the hype of the Blair Witch Project?

I saw this movie on DVD and thought it was a waste of film. Please tell me how come so many people thought it was scary. There wasn't a witch to be seen. Just a shaky camera and 3 teenagers running around getting lost in the backwoods. I'm glad I never saw it back in 1999.

I couldn't even bring myself to watch the whole thing and I don't understand why it had so many fans/followers either. I guess they knew it sucked and gave it all the hype so people would actually come watch it.As for the audience people getting so into it...well, I'm going to hope that they were just really bored instead of thinking that they thought it was actually good.
