Machine from 80's- played flat, square, plastic-cased movies???!

Question:

Machine from 80's- played flat, square, plastic-cased movies???

Each movie was in a big, plastic square that was inserted directly into the machine. Anybody remember what the machine and discs were called? Are they still available?? Thanks!

Why I'm asking is because I have very fond memories of watching these "discs" at my grandparent's home as a child, and was interested in maybe looking for the same thing on e-bay, for example. But I have no idea what to "search" for! LOL!

Answers:

...I remember having one of these video disc players, myself; it was the very first movie machine I ever had (that is, before I got suckered into purchasing the ill-fated Beta format).

Manufactured exclusively by RCA, the video disc player utilized what was called CEDs, or Capacitance Electronic Discs; though they looked like laserdiscs, the machine that played them, actually used an ultra fine stylus, much like a record player.

I remember that half the time that the movies were played in the video disc player, they were quite susceptible to frequent skipping, due to the sensitivity of both the video discs, and the stylus.

Here's a more descript lowdown on the format, as well as a picture of one of the discs, partially out of it's protective plastic cover...
