The movie was filmed on location at the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island, Michigan, in 1979. The film was released in 1980. One interesting sidenote: During the shoot, the island's only theater was showing 'Superman the Movie' when the projector broke down during the final reel. The theater manager knew Reeve was staying at the nearby Grand Hotel, explained the situation, and Reeve graciously did an impromptu description/performance of the remainder of the film, including acting out all the other parts. It was a memorable night at the movies for those lucky few in attendance.
