Did Pirates or Star Wars rip off other movies/books?
I have previously heard that the third Pirates movie ripped off another movie and that Lucas's Star Wars isn't nearly as original as most people think. If this is true, what movies/books are these stories stolen from? I hope this isn't true as I love both of these series dearly (although the third Pirates and all of the new trilogy Star Wars are rather dissapointing, LOL).

I'd say that POTC has its share Star Wars moments in it, and that Star Wars, which was originally supposed to be a space opera version of THE HIDDEN FORTRESS, shows the influences of Kurosawa, Flash Gordon, and Tolkien. Also, if you follow the Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader story arc from beginning to end, it can very easily be compared to FAUST. And these all follow the "Hero's Journey" structure of mythology.
