Am I the only one who thinks that Tyler Perry's movies lack substance?!

Question:

Am I the only one who thinks that Tyler Perry's movies lack substance?

I recently watched Madea's Family Reunion ( the movie), and I found it to be over dramatic. Don't get me wrong. I love Tyler Perry. I think he is a brillant entertainer but at the same time I think his plays are far better than his movies. All of his material seems to revolve around the same theme (domestic abuse, substance abuse, child abuse, and there is usually a strong black female character). I personally don't think he needs to make anymore movies unless they are originals. I don't think his recent movie, Daddy's Little Girls, did well at the box office because it was rushed to DVD. Is it possible that Tyler is losing his touch? Maybe other people are starting to feel like me about his material.

Answers:

I don't think his movies lack substance. Admittedly, he does use melodrama as a style of telling his stories. Some people like that, some don't. I usually don't like melodrama, but Perry has a way of making it work.
