Why is the Millenium Falcon the fastest ship in the galaxy? How did he make the K!

Question:

Why is the Millenium Falcon the fastest ship in the galaxy? How did he make the KESSELrun in less than12parsecs

It involves math and physics and its in the audio commentary of episode 4 dvd.Velocity equals Distance divided by Time. or V=D/T, like 60 MPH. 60 is velocity, miles is distance, hour is time.

So if you are going light speed, YOU CAN NOT GO FASTER THAN THAT. its the absolute fastest you can travel. So you can not change the value for velocity.

You can not change the value for distance ( like the Kessel run ) or you would never reach your destination. You could calculate light speed into MPH or feet per second or whatever you want but after conversions they WOULD ALL BE THE SAME.

So the only value left we can change is TIME to increase our velocity. When Han makes the calculations to jump to light speed, hes plotting a path between point A to point B. The quickest path between 2 points is a straight line, SO ITS HIS SPECIALLY MODIFIED NAVIGATIONAL COMPUTER THAT MAKES IT FASTEST. It plots the straightest line between destinations, taking straightest route between planets

Answers:

not entirely true. in the star wars universe there is a hyperdrive multiplier that is applied to the equation as well. han being the smuggler that he is has one on the falcon. now i have heard two different stories as to where he came across it. one is that it was lando who won the multiplier in a sabbac game, and the other is that it was the only part of jabba's smuggled cargo that han didn't dump. aside from where he got it, he mentions the multiplier in a new hope. it is during the death star escape when they approach the hanger on the 2nd floor leia says "what a peice of junk" han replies "she'll make .5 past light speed." that is the reference.
so what it does is multiplies the time portion of the calculation of light speed. so if it takes a ship 1 hour to travel 1 light year the multiplier would then be applied and in the falcon's case 1 light year could be traveled in 30 minutes (1 hr x .5 = 30 min) so in fact the falcon can change the time portion of the run and in turn affect it's speed.

the other problem is with the kessel run itself. see the kessel run is measured in distance because kessel is surrounded by various black holes and is filled with huge electrical/plasma storms that are constantly being bounced around between the black holes by their gravitational pulls. in order to successfully navigate it you have to jump in and out of hyperspace to do a zig-zagging approach so you don't fly into one of the storms or holes. the usual kessel run is made between 15-18 parsecs due to the danger of the run people play it safe and take longer to ensure their safety. now couple the fact that the falcon has a better than top of the line navigational computer and the .5 multiplier and you end up with a ship that is fast enough in hyperspace to make the more direct routes calculated by his navicomputer. thus allowing him to make the kessel run in less than 12 parsecs, an unheard of feat. in a new hope if you look at obi-wan's face when han claims this it is a look of someone smelling bs.
the falcon is the fastest ship in the galaxy, but it is not entirely due to the navicomputer, and han himself admits that it will go faster than light speed.

good to meet another star wars junkie
