Why do the critics hate McG?!

Question:

Why do the critics hate McG?

...the diretor, that is. I was looking online to see when "We are Marshall" is coming out on DVD, and started reading reviews. (Why, oh why did I do that?) It seems that many of the critics who gave the movie a bad review seemed biased just based on the fact that it was directed by, "the same guy who gave us 'Charlies' Angels' ". Personally I'd never heard of him (nor any of the actors in the movie other than the two Matthews), but I loved this movie. Granted, I do have a personal connection to the story, and may be a little biased the other way, but who cares if this guy directed "Charlie's Angels"? Good grief, it's not as if "Charlie's Angels" was meant to be a serious film anyway. Why didn't they give this guy a chance? I thought he did a beautiful job in retelling this story!

Answers:

Prior to "Marshall" he had only made the two "Charlie's Angels" flicks - which were fun but also completely free of substance. Therefore, he kind of has to prove that he can actually tell a story and make a movie that doesn't rely on music video-like sequences, action scenes, and hot half-naked women.
