Question:

In the movie 300, why does Leonidas tell the hunchback at the end that he may live forever?

This is the scene at the very end of the movie when the emmissary of Xerxes asks for Leonidas's surrender and the hunchback says "please Leonidas, I beg you!" and Leonidas says "You there! May you live forever."

Why!? He just betrayed him?

If I had to guess I would say that maybe because Leonidas wants him to live forever so he can live with the guilt of betraying his fellow Spartans????

Answers:

Live forever in the minds of people so they know that he was a traitor (but history indicated he wasn't a hunchback)
