Why is it always cold in the movies?!

Question:

Why is it always cold in the movies?

Everytime I go to the movies it is very cold... why is this? I have visited several movie theaters and this is always the case.

Answers:

Several reasons...

Historically (though not in recent years), the movies were one of the first places that had air conditioning. People went to the movies to escape summertime heat, especially in the west and south. This established a tradition of having AC in the movies.

Also, human bodies generate heat - a lot of it. The AC systems in a theatre are set to keep the theatre cool at all times. If there are a LOT of people in a theatre, it can heat up a lot if the AC system isn't cranked up. If there are only a few people watching a film, however, it can get too cold. This is because the more people, the more heat generated, thus the more AC needed. It is easier for them to just leave the AC on cold all the time.

Mostly, it is because if a guest is too cold, he/she can next time bring heavier clothing/a jacket to the theatre. But if you're too HOT, you can't exactly just strip nude in the theatre. Since every person has a different temperature preference, they choose to err on the side of too cold, since that's easier to deal with than too hot.
