When the character Lieutenant Dan Taylor loses his legs in the vietnam war in the movie, how does he keep his legs out of view? Does he bend them back or are they green-screened out of view?

Done with computer graphics.
There is one scene when Lt. Dan wants to get back in his wheelchair without help. There is a brief moment when you see his upper leg held out in an unlikely position, unless you can imagine the actor's legs sticking straight out, with his heels on the floor. Then the angle makes sense, but, of course, the leg beneath the knee has been "erased" from the image.
Otherwise, an excellent job of film "magic."
