Harry Potter and the order of phoenix prophecy and sirius question :]?!

Question:

Harry Potter and the order of phoenix prophecy and sirius question :]?

i read the book a while ago, and didn't really understand it.. so i thought by watching the movie i would finally get it... but i still didn't..
ok.. questions about the prophecy: what exactly is a prophecy? like what information does his contain that would make voldermort want it so badly (was it just than one line "neither can live while the other survive"?) and why did lucius malfoy not want harry to break it? and it was broken... so what does that mean?
and why did sirius die, was it because of the curse or because he fell into the archway? ...
and if they could kill ppl so easily, why didn't they just kill all the bad guys like that?

I NEED TO KNOW.. it's killing me!
thanks :]

Answers:

A prophesy is basically a prediction about the future from a seer (A person with the 'gift' to go into trances and say predict the future) that is almost guaranteed to come true.
Voldemort wanted it so badly because it was about Harry being his downfall. Years and years ago, before Harry was born, Prof. Trelawney was in the middle of a job interview with Dumbledore when she went into a trance and spewed out the prophesy. At the time, Snape was outside the door, eavesdropping, but he only got to hear the first part of it. Snape told all that he heard to Voldemort, so based on what Snape told him, Voldie went and killed Harry's parents, tried to kill Harry, and wound up getting himself destroyed. Now that Voldemort's back, he wants to know if the part of the prophesy that he didn't hear says why he got destroyed, so he can properly kill Harry and not get himself destroyed again.
Lucius wanted Harry to not drop it because to their knowledge, that glass sphere is the only remaining way on the earth to hear the prophesy, so if the ball breaks, Voldemort doesn't get to hear the rest of the prophesy.
As for Sirius, he died because he was stunned by Bellatrix, and then fell through the archway, which leads to the afterlife or something. They don’t kill all the bad guys that way because apparently they don’t have a death penalty in the wizarding world, the wizards still aren’t 100% sure what the veil does, and it’s kinda hard to stun someone who’s a fully trained wizard (they know all the proper blocking & dodging techniques. Bellatrix just got a lucky shot, and Sirius was just in the wrong place)
Hope that helps!
