Any suggestions for a movie that doesn't require much dominance of the English L!

Question:

Any suggestions for a movie that doesn't require much dominance of the English Language? 4 example; Apocalypto

I am having a family reunion and would like everyone to watch a DVD, however, there are a couple of people in the group that do not undertand English very well - (they speak different languages, so subtitles would not be the best answer) I guess I would be looking for possible movies/films that do not put too much emphasis on an elaborate script? - I also would not want to watch a kid's movie... I recently watched Apocalypto and thought this was a good example of a movie like this. Any suggestions?

Answers:

My strongest recommendation would be BARAKA.

I had never heard of this movie until my partner told me about it and we rented it from Netflix. I fell in love at first sight.

Amazon.com describes it as "a dazzling barrage of images that transcend language". That's an apt description. There's no storyline or script to follow. You don't need to speak English (or any other language) to enjoy the beauty of this movie. It will blow you away with its amazing images of people and places around the world. You can't watch this movie and be bored or sad. If anything, it makes you wish you could grow wings and fly off around the world to see all the things you see in the movie.

Two other films from the same director (and equally breathtaking) are KOYAANISQATSI AND POWAQQATSI:

If those don't blow your skirt up, I'd say maybe QUEST FOR FIRE or CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR. Or possibly WINGED MIGRATION.
