I know she played a character named "Helen", and at the time was in her early 20's, but I haven't seen that movie in ages, and wanted to know if she was one of the high schoolers, or a teacher, or what?

She's actually one of the school girls. That little clump of girls who kinda follow around behind the blonde girl who absolutely hates Carrie? She's wearing huge (and I do mean huge) glasses, so if you look for those, you'll see it's McClurg. I believe she's actually in the opening "plug it up" scene as well...
