If you sell the movie rights to your screenplay, and the movie is a big hit, how!

Question:

If you sell the movie rights to your screenplay, and the movie is a big hit, how much do you make?

Ball park figure. I'm talking about a big production film like The Bourne Identity. Thanks for the answers.

Answers:

It depends on the screenplay...usually a studio will pay around $100,000 for the rights to a screenplay, and then the movie still may never get made. But if you are a proven screenwriter and studios are coming to you to write something for them you can make considerably more and even get a percentage on the back end.
