Is Arthouse the same as Independent Film?

I read an actor interview that mentioned 'arthouse', wondered if that's slang for Independent? While I'm here, I'll also ask if there's any other slang for Indie that you can think of?

An Arthouse film is targeted at a niche audience and is not as concerned about a widespread audience. Think of it as moving art - and sometimes it is the eye of the individual whether it passes as true art. - An independent film can be see by a wide audience - but it is usually financed outside of the studios.
