What's so great about Harry Potter?!

Question:

What's so great about Harry Potter?

Personally I've never seen past the second one, and I have no idea which of the two is the beginning of the movies, nor do I remember the names. I find the whole thing, cheesy and nerdy. What appeals you about Harry Potter?

Answers:

What I find fascinating about Harry Potter is JK Rowling's ability to get kids to read.

Reading for the fun of it is dying. With competition from video games and cable TV, kids are reading less and less.

I think that it is incredible that Harry Potter has caught on like it has. In more specific answer to your question, Harry Potter captures the imaginations of kids (an admittedly this adult) like books have not done in quite awhile. It is once again "cool" to read a specific book. I think one of the reasons that so many kids read Harry Potter is that JK has sucessfully written something that is "cool" to read and be a part of. Kids do what other kids do, peer pressure, creatures of habit, etc. I love the fact that Harry Potter & reading fills this need for many kids. There are much worse things that kids can be doing rather than reading.
