Was Colin Farrell's Alexander the Great as bad as the critics say?

I enjoyed it very much. I think the storyline is very close to what most historians believe it was like. I had read a bit about Alexander before, so I was not surprised or taken aback by the portrayal of homosexuality amongst ancient Greeks or the carnage. I expected all of that, because that is how it really was back then. I also am very open minded in that sense.
As for the actors, I must confess I am bad in telling a bad actor from a good one, perhaps I am too much of a nerd for that. On the other hand, I have watched movies loved by the critics that have made me fall asleep... :-)
If you like history as much as I do and are open minded, you will enjoy it. If you are looking for an action epic or great performers on screen, perhaps this is not the movie for you.
