Film Career and Film Colleges?!

Question:

Film Career and Film Colleges?

I am very interested in the idea of a career in film. I am looking for advice on colleges that will supply me with the best knowledge and skills to make it in the real world.

What colleges are the best?

Are these colleges reputable for things other than film?

Any other information about making it in the film industry will be very helpful. Thanks!

Answers:

Since college is so expensive and the film industry is looking at what you can do based on your demo reel, I would suggest that you consider developing your film skills through workshops and practical experience. College is best for careers where its easier to land an entry-level job that earns enough to pay back the debt you financed.

You can volunteer to help students with their movies and learn real world skills for free. Buy a camcorder and shoot your own movies to gain even more experience and build a reel. When you have enough experience to turn out high-quality work, then enter contests and screen at festivals to get the attention of industry people.

By all means, go to college, but major in something that can be your fallback if the Hollywood dream doesn't pan out. You can still take a few film classes while you're there. Good Luck.
