The film The Blood Diamond?!

Question:

The film The Blood Diamond?

Did anyone else think it was absolutely amazing?? I was truly surprised at DiCaprio's amazing performance

But i was wondering; does anyone know how Sierra Leone felt about the film? And are Sierra Leone truly at peace now?

Answers:

Yes, I agree, it was quite a powerful film, mainly because is documented real events, though with a large degree of poetic license.

I think to no country can be truly be at peace, but put into context the country is much more stable now than it was.

But sadly exploitation still takes place, and as is said in the film, I believe near the end, as long as there is something of value that the country can be exploited for, be that diamonds, gold, or even black gold, aka oil, then there will always be people who are willing to exploit others for their own greed and financial gain.

If you enjoyed Blood Diamond then I believe you would also enjoy The Last King of Scotland, though enjoy may be the wrong choice of word, since the films are based on true events. The film is based on the life of Idi Amin, a very brutal dictator who murdered many of Uganda's citizens during his stay of power during 1971-1979.

It is a very powerful film and Idi Amin is portrayed brilliantly by Forest Whitaker, who subsequently, and deservedly won an Oscar for his performance, among many other awards.
