There is an electronic publication called Retrorama Magazine. They publish in PDF formate bi-monthly and subscription is free. They will send you back issues for free as well. You can subscribe by emailing them at retroramamagazine@gmail.com
If you need to you could possible go to the library and use magazines that were published in the 80s for reference. But let's face it...the internet is your best source....There are so many sites dedicated to the 80s, I really think there is more info that you will ever need.

If you can read Japanese, there's Burrrnnn!!! That's mainly rock/metal based. All those guys from the 70s and 80s are still big in Japan, so they write about 'em. There's also Classic Rock, a Brit magazine available in the US for like $10. They feature some 80's bands.
