Well, it promotes a kind of social conformity - if you aren't looking like they say, or behaving like they do, then you could get insecure and go and do something stupid. Also, it doesn't really promote individuality. ALSO, they are mainly heterosexual, i.e. it's all about getting the boys, which kinda sucks when you're young and questioning your sexual orientation. I mean, I would rather get some practical advice from a mag that is open to all sexual preferences, rather than have to go through the potential embarrassment of buying something like Diva.

seventeen and cosmogirl are different.
they do talk about being gay and even have gay relationship stories.
they have things about appreciating your size and what works with your body type. like, they don't just have skinny people in the mag. they have bigger people too.
i like that they get a variety of people.

also, my parents are very conservative and we don't talk about guys and all the other stuff that comes with it and these magazines have helped me learn and become a better person and how to avooid bad situatuions and such.
like, it shows you how to protect urself, but it also says stuff about how to flirt with guys, but i guess it's 50/50 u know? but it teaches me saftey things that i honestly would have no way of finding out. and i still am a good person, :)

They are breeding a Nation of clones for one, and not 'nice' clones at that.

Little like the tramp stamps that went around a while back, girls forgot all about individuality as they clamoured to be the same!

So as well as size (size 0), breast implants, piercings, tattoos and alike, they are promoting a 'tarty' lifestyle!

I am sure that the MEN at the root of these magazines love what they are doing to these girls, It's a bit like the playboy brand and how they have convinced so many girls to find it so normal to get all of their kit off for the boys!

Rather than encouraging better standards, they seem to push lower ones. It's not just the magazines either, everything pushes our young women into becoming clones of what some pervert in the 'fashion' world decided they should be!

Ban 'em I say and keep the girls covered and inside until they are at least 21 too!

i think it does because a lot of girls see paris hilton for example and how skinny she is and they look at her and say thats how they want to be
my opinion is 9 times out of 10 more plump women look better than the skinny ones
i also think that your role model shouldnt be famous or a celb because it has shown people with celbs for there role model isnt doing there best at school

I only read art magazines.. Like Juxtapoz, so I'm not sure. I've had friends who have based who they would go out with or not on what a magazine said though.

I think that magazines offer a source of comfort to many girls but i do not think that they affect girls in the way that they believe in changing their appearance.

they make me feel a bit depressed as I can't afford any of the designer stuff that they advertise!!
